"Rombald's Rocks": Keighley Sculpture Trail Launch Event
Details
Coming to Keighley this May is Rombald’s Rocks; a sculpture trail that takes it’s inspiration from local legend and creator of Ilkley’s Cow and Calf Rocks, Rombald the Giant. The brainchild of local artist, Leonie Briggs, this project is designed to demonstrate the creativity of the local community and highlight the district’s rich folklore. The project wants local people to carry on the stories of Rombald the Giant and his wife who smashed stones on Ilkley Moor. Leonie is being supported by arts charity, Keighley Creative, and the project involves many people from the local community including artists, volunteers, workshop facilitators and community groups. Rombald’s Rocks: Keighley Sculpture Trail will be unveiled on the launch day of Saturday 24th May 2025. It will feature unique sculptures made by Leonie and then decorated by other local artists and community groups. These “Rombald’s Rocks” will be situated around the centre of Keighley and a free trail map will be available This launch day will also include free and fun activities around town including workshops, storytelling and music. There will also be a series of free, family-friendly and inclusive “Rombald’s Rocks” craft workshops on the run up to the launch weekend, giving local people the opportunity to add their own unique pieces of artwork to the Keighley Sculpture Trail. The workshops are being held on Saturdays between 10:30am and 3pm at the locations below: • 26th April at the Airedale Shopping Centre • 3rd May at Keighley Market • 10th May at the Airedale Shopping Centre • 17th May at Keighley Market For more information on Rombald’s Rocks: Keighley Sculpture Trail, visit keighleycreative.org, follow @keighleycreative on social media and keep an eye on local press and posters around Keighley.
